Report from Academy Sailor, Tom

Great report from Tom, one of our young academy sailors, as he gets to grips with his new Ovington ILCA.

“My first couple weeks of sailing the Ovington ILCA has been one of the most incredible experiences for me. The boat is as sleek and as well tuned as I imagined it to be. The bow cuts cleanly through the water while the hiking straps in cockpit are well padded making it super comfy when hiking.

When I was told I was getting the dinghy, I couldn’t sleep very well because of the excitement running through my head. The day I got the boat was indescribable, I couldn’t stop smiling!

The first job was for my Dad and I to rig the boat from scratch for the very first time, something we have never done before.

My initial sail was an absolute blast with relatively windy conditions, which kept me hiking hard all the time! Despite multiple capsizes, wind shifts and hailstorms I still can’t stop smiling”.
