Firefly

The new Ovington Firefly has been developed in co-ordination with the National Firefly Association and the RYA. The construction has been considerably updated to utilise modern fibreglass moulding techniques, coupled with high levels of ‘in process quality management’. We are making these Fireflies from existing NFA owned moulds,  strong and durable – improving their useable lifespan, whilst taking care to maintain equal competitive performance with the current fleet.

The layup has been changed from previous GRP Fireflies with the use of more modern materials and additional glass on the inner skin. Vacuum bagging has been introduced into the moulding process for improved quality of layup. The boat is now constructed using full foam sandwich layup and so significantly stronger and stiffer than previous fibreglass boats. The bulkheads have been improved adding improved rigidity rather than just separating buoyancy chambers. The gunnels have been significantly strengthened to resist impact damage with changes to the mould to allow castellation’s on the underside, increasing the bonding area and providing solid fixation points for chainplates anchorages.

The visual design of boat is enhanced by being presented in a light grey finish with complimentary black anodised aluminium steering gear, traveller bar and mast step, plus black toe straps and hatch covers.
