We are proud to offer two comprehensive rollaway packages featuring a race-ready 29er as well as spare parts for the UK’s best youth class single trapeze rig. The 29er benefits from a fully established, active world-wide racing circuit. Backed up by Ovington’s worldwide dealer network, this allows sailors to get boats and spares easily, no matter where they’re based.
The 29er was designed by Julian Bethwaite in 1998 alongside a team of internationally renowned sailors including Dave Ovington from Ovington Boats. It is targeted to allow young sailors to get into skiff sailing and acts as the stepping stone for its big brothers, the Olympic 49er and 49er FX.
The 29er is a 4.45m two-person, single trapeze dinghy with a lightweight hull and asymmetric spinnaker. The class is described as ‘pure, unadulterated, high octane sailing.’
29ers are well-equipped, durable, and fully competitive right from the box. The boat features fully battened sails, a self-tacking jib, and a composite tipped mast making it pure skiff. It includes a ram kicker/vang, moulded grab rails, a mainsail cuff that increases efficiency, and an enclosed transom.
All these features combined offers the ultimate in gust response and acceleration, which is why we recommend that new sailors try the skiff with an experienced sailor.
The Ovington Championships is a standalone event sponsored by Ovington Boats and organised by the 29er Class and ourselves. The 2021 Ovington Championships is set to be held at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy from 13th – 14th November 2021.
