Designed in the early 20th century, the International 14 is a high-performance development skiff that has remained at the forefront of global dinghy racing development since its inception. It is a fast, exciting double-handed dinghy with a long history.
The International 14 is a 14-foot twin trapeze racing dinghy that has evolved from wooden hulls of the 1920s to today’s modern carbon fibre machines. The current International 14 models weigh little and have unlimited asymmetric spinnaker size, square top fully battened mainsail, an adjustable carbon rig and a hydrofoil rudder. Its ideal racing weight is 150-190kg.
The International 14 is a development class that is controlled by a set of rules that allow for innovation and changes in hull and rig design, as long as they fall within a set of specific limitations.
Ovington Boats has a long history of building International 14s along with Chris Turner who joined in 2005 from Specialized Marine. We build the boats to the latest Beiker 6 design.
The International 14 has gone global, staying at the forefront of development and representing the ultimate in double-handed dinghy racing. There are currently active 14 fleets in the UK Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the USA.
